Congratulations! Special Thanks to Ari Ne’eman, Samantha Crane and the Autistic Self Advocacy Network!

"VICTORY. EPIC WIN OF THE DAY. Our collectivism actually worked, folks. After President Obama announced that he would be issuing an executive order mandating a $10.10 minimum wage for employees of federal contractors, the administration initially claimed (incorrectly) that the President didn’t have the authority to override Section 14(c) for disabled employees of federal contractors. The Autistic Self Advocacy Network’s (awesome) Public Policy Director, Samantha Crane, wrote a legal memorandum demonstrating the legal basis for the President’s authority to upend Section 14(c) for employees of federal contractors. And then we sent letters and made phone calls to the White House and Department of Labor urging the President to include workers with disabilities in the new wage protections. Only a few hours ago today, President Obama signed the new, inclusive executive order, in the presence of many leading advocates in the disability rights community. Now it’s time to tackle Section 14(c) for ALL workers with disabilities! Image description: An official, formal looking room with embroidered gold drapes in the White House, where President Obama is seated at a desk signing the executive order. He is surrounded by fourteen people standing around/behind him, at least half are visibly people of color, all smiling and very happy looking.
